색, 서울을 물들이다 Color the City of Seoul

 전시소개 : 작가노트

현대인에게 도시는 치열한 삶의 현장이자 동시에 안온한 휴식의 공간이기도 하다. 도시의 삶에 지친 현대인들은 자연풍경과 어우러진 장소 안에서 여유를 찾기 시작하는데, 이 과정에서 이성적이기만 했던 도시는 또 다른 감성의 공간으로 나타난다.

작가는 자칫 회색빛으로 보여 질 수 있는 도시를 본래의 색으로 규정하지 않고 다채로운 색으로 조합하고 화면에 담아낸다. 시각적으로는 따뜻하고 편안한 감성을 주고, 촉각적으로는 거친 느낌을 주는 ‘모시’ 라는 천을 자연의 빛깔로 물들이고, 이를 자르고 오려 붙이는 콜라주기법의 작업방식은 이성과 감성이 공존하는 도시의 양면성을 담아내고 있다.

<색, 서울을 물들이다> 전시는 철과 유리라는 인공적인 요소와 자연과 빛이라는 자연적인 요소가 어우러진 서울시청 공간 속에서 작가만의 방식으로 도시, 서울의 모습을 담아낸다. 이번 전시를 통해 일상에서 바라보던 서울의 공간이 각자에게 또 다른 상상력의 공간으로 느끼길 바라며, 더불어 우리가 살고 있는 도시 안의 삶의 이야기들을 색색의 그리움으로 물들이고 그러한 색들을 마음에 담아보길 바란다.

To modern people, a city is a place where they fight for their lives. And, at the same time, it is a place where they relax and unwind, free from the daily grind. Those who are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city life tend to seek for an escape to a place with natural landscapes. In this process, the city that seems "rational" becomes another "sensible" space.

The artist does not define a city as an ash-colored space, but she uses colorful colors to describe the city. She dyed "Mosi," or a ramie fabric, with pigments from nature, which visually gives a warm and comfortable feeling, yet tactually a tough feeling, Then she takes a collage technique by cutting and pasting the Mosi to convey a dual-forcedness of a city having a rationality and sensibility at the same time.

The <Color the City of Seoul> exhibition depicts Seoul by the artist's own way at the City Hall where artificial materials, such as iron and glass, and natural elements of nature and lights are combined. Through this exhibition, you may see Seoul as an imaginary space, not a space you see in everyday life. Also you will have an opportunity to paint stories of lives in the city we live in with colorful nostalgia.

전시작가

정연희 작가는 동덕여자대학교 회화과를 졸업하고 동 대학원에서 한국화전공을 수료했다. 최근 <도시유람>(동덕아트갤러리), <색, 도시를 물들이다> ( ART247), <색, 그리움을 물들이다>(갤러리탐) 등의 개인전으로 작업을 선보이고 있으며 현재 비영리단체 ‘한국재료미술연구회’ 의 이사로 활동하여 자연의 색이 갖는 힘과 전통재료에 대해 연구하고 이를 순수미술에 접목시켜 예술영역을 확장해나가고 있다.

Jeong,yeonheui graduated from Dongduk Women's University's Painting Department, and completed her study in Korean Painting at the graduate school of Dongduk Women's University. She has recently had solo exhibitions, such as <City Excursion> (Dongduk Art Gallery), <Color, Coloring the City> (ART247), <Color, Coloring the nostalgia> (Gallery Tom). She works as the Director of the non-profit Korea Material Arts Research Institute to study the strength of natural colors and traditional materials, and combine it with fine arts.
